IMS is the International Meat Secretariat. It brings together meat and livestock organisations throughout the world, in a single non-profit making association. It provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the issues affecting the international meat and livestock sector.
Member of the month:
Conféderacãda Agricultura e Pecuária do Brasil – CNA
Since its establishment in 1961, Brazil’s National Agriculture Conféderation (CNA) ranks as the largest general farm organization in the nation. The so-called CNA system is made up of 27 Federal State Federations of Agriculture, 2,000 Local Farmers’ Unions and over 1 million voluntary affiliated primary agricultural producers scattered across Brazil.
Federal State farm organizations represent the interests of the agricultural sector in their respective States, national commodity commissions represent individual commodities on national issues, and CNA is responsible for national issues that affect more than one State or more than one commodity.
CNA works to represent the interests of the Brazilian farmer vis-à-vis the national public and private sectors, as well as some key international organizations and discussion forums. Its main objectives are to promote rural development and to assist Brazilian farmers with doing political advocacy at national and international levels. In order to fulfil its international role as the main representative of Brazilian farmers’ interests, CNA relies on international organizations like the International Meat Secretariat as key international forums where farmers and rural leaders can meet and exchange views in an increasingly global agricultural economy.
