IMS is the International Meat Secretariat. It brings together meat and livestock organisations throughout the world, in a single non-profit making association. It provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the issues affecting the international meat and livestock sector.

The Sixth IMS World Pork Conference will be held in Bonn on 6-7 October 2011. Against a backdrop of rising demand for the world’s most popular meat, pork industry representatives will gather to be briefed on the latest trends, and to assess the future prospects for production, consumption and international trade. The great advantage of this year’s Conference is that it will take place just prior to the bi-annual ANUGA trade fair in Cologne. The Maritim Hotel, which boasts top notch conference facilities, will house Conference delegates who can prolong their stay for the ANUGA.

The World Pork Conference offers participants the opportunity to meet colleagues from other countries, and also to exchange views with some of the leading government officials and regulators that are so important for the future of production and international trade in pork, such as the EU Commissioner for Energy, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Russia, the German State Secretary for Agriculture, and the President of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code Commission of the OIE.

How can production meet the growing demand for pork, where will growth be highest and what are the political factors influencing these trends ? Answers to these questions will be provided in Session 1, where speakers will include Günther Oettinger, EU Energy Commissioner, Christoph Guenther, Head of Business Development Animal Nutrition Europe, BASF SE; Richard Brown, Director of GIRA; Xianfu Zhu, President of Zhongpin Inc, and David Bosshart, CEO Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute
